Biden burnished his international credentials by arriving at COP27 in Egypt with a US commitment of $375bn over a decade to fight climate change. His face-to face sit down on Monday with China’s leader Xi will quietly underscore that he’s serious about policy, not showboating. His supporters say he is an advert for sensible, consensus politics and political experience.
For comparison, Obama’s personal rating was 46 per cent when he was trounced in 2010 midterms, before regrouping to win in 2012. Biden’s poll ratings have been languishing under 40 per cent, but he has still managed to limit midterm losses.
