After losing her job, Debra Andres decided to volunteer at Westside Free Store Ministries.

When Debra Andres lost her job at a Columbus restaurant following its closure, she became bored with the free time she had on her hands.To occupy some of her time, she began to volunteer atat 61 S. Powell Ave. in Columbus right before the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in early 2020.

“If I need something to cook a meal and we don’t have it or we can’t get it, I will go buy stuff to make it.”Westside Free Store Ministries director: 'She was a godsend.' “If we’re making toast on a griddle, a couple griddles are set up. We have bread buttered, and we’re grilling bread and making toast. And if we’re doing hash browns, I’ll have hash browns in the oven. We’re doing things as we go.”
