In an effort to spend more time with his family, Jimmie Johnson will race a limited schedule in 2023, he announced. Johnson says he will likely focus on a “bucket list” of races. Jordan_Bianchi has more:

While Johnson said this decision does not mean he will no longer drive, he said he doesn’t have what is required to do it full-time. “From a full‐time standpoint and what’s required, and the energy, efforts and time away from home and all the commitments required to be your best for a full‐time season. I’m just not there right now. And I feel like 2022 checks so many boxes for me and I had such an incredible time that I’m going to take a deep breath and think hard about what ‘23 might look like.
The 47-year-old Johnson ran the entire 36‐race NASCAR Cup Series schedule from 2002‐2020, winning a record five consecutive championships and a record‐tying seven overall. He then shifted in 2021 to running select IMSA sports car and IndyCar races on street and road courses, totaling 16 races. The scaled-back schedule better allowed Johnson to spend time with his wife and two young daughters.
