North Wildwood believes the fines were issued in retaliation for the city countersuing the DEP for $21 million to recoup replenishment costs.

The $12.8 million in fines stem from past unauthorized beach replenishment work, pier renovations, construction of a restaurant and bar, building bathrooms allegedly outside of the designated sewer service area, as well as other boardwalk development, court documents provided by the DEP show.
