Jersey City cites homeowner who is advertising ‘ultimate’ bed and breakfast, spa and event space
The BathHaus website advertises “the capacity to lodge and host up to 24 guests” and “150-200 guests for events inclusive of our outdoor space. Ideal for brunches / art exhibitions / birthday parties. .... casino parties / private spa and yoga sessions and more.”
“I thought as a private property, I can rent my property to somebody who wants to use it for a legal reason,” said Garvin, who noted that these events are “not an everyday event.” “He is renting out the property, which is not his primary residence, for large-scale parties with limo drop-offs, red carpets, step and repeats, private spa services, and illegal alcohol sales,” city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace Scalcione said. “Each event required a police response.
Garvin says complaints by neighbors — for noise and blocking a driveway — are holding up his certificate of occupancy , but those complaints and the CO — the document that a property owner needs to move in — should be separate issues.
