It takes something memorable to get show-goers to smile during the endless roundabout of catwalks, parties, and showroom visits that make up fashion month. But Gaultier’s autumn/winter 2007 show succeeded, largely thanks to Coco Rocha. The Canadian model, who began learning Irish dance at a young age, opened the show not with a standard walk, but a Celtic jig.
Gaultier returned to his corseted roots for his spring/summer 2010 show, playing around with bodices, bustiers and bras in every possible permutation. They were made in denim; incorporated into dungarees; peeped out from beneath trench coats; rendered in bright orange and muted khaki, remaining perfectly pink and pearly as part of a satin gown that wouldn’t have looked out of place on an old-Hollywood starlet .
