Jalen Brunson certainly didn’t look like someone limited by an injury, coming through in overtime to send the Knicks to their fifth straight victory.
CHICAGO — Foot contusion? What foot contusion.
After going to isolation ball with Julius Randle to close out regulation, the Knicks put the ball in Brunson’s hands in the extra session, and he didn’t disappoint. He scored seven of his 30 points in the final five minutes as the Knicks knocked off the Bulls, 128-120, after blowing a late five-point lead in regulation.
Brunson, a game-time decision, also had eight assists and Randle had 31 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. RJ Barrett added 22 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Grimes had 14 and three big 3-pointers down the stretch. DeMar DeRozan scored 32 for the Bulls, who had their three-game home winning streak snapped.
The Knicks controlled the first half from the opening tip, scoring the game’s first eight points and leading by double figures just 4:15 in. Randle continued his torrid streak, scoring 15 of his team-high 18 points in the opening quarter and Brunson showed no ill effects of the right foot contusion, producing 12 points and four assists.
