Jacob deGrom lost his shot at a no-hitter, then lost his night altogether.
The former Mets ace, in his sixth start as a Ranger, left Friday’s game against the Yankees with an apparent injury after giving up his first hit with two outs in the fourth inning at Globe Life Field.
DeGrom’s final pitch was an 89.4 mph slider – which averaged 92.1 mph on Friday – that Willie Calhoun lined to left field for a single. Seconds later, a trainer and Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux came to visit with deGrom on the mound. After a conversation, and a brief visit by manager Bruce Bochy, deGrom walked off the mound with a trainer., also exited an April 17 start with wrist soreness, but pitched again last Sunday.AP
His first time through the Yankees order, deGrom had retired all nine Yankees before issuing a one-out walk to Anthony Rizzo in the fourth inning.Share this article:
