NEW: Discord CEO Jason Citron says he found reports of child exploitation on the platform 'horrifying' and that the company takes the issue 'very seriously.'
“As a parent, it’s horrifying." Citron said in response to questions from Bloomberg journalist Emily Chang."We take this stuff very seriously.”
The investigation revealed that since the platform's creation in 2015, at least 35 child abduction, grooming, or exploitation prosecutions involved communications via Discord, and 165 child sexual abuse material prosecutions involved the platform. Additionally, NBC News identified hundreds of active Discord servers promoting child exploitation.
