The veteran track and field coach spent the past couple years teaching and coaching in Atlanta.
When he left for Atlanta he said it was to be by his ailing mother’s side. She sadly died a short time after he left, but Manning hung around in that city for a couple years, staying in the track and field game as a coach at Peach Tree Ridge High School. Still, his heart was in central Pa., and it wasn’t uncommon for him to fly back for a weekend to be on the sidelines for Harrisburg High football games.
“Now, I’m going to save some money on flights,” he said with a laugh. “It’s just a great opportunity to coach in Pennsylvania.” “The opportunity … CD East is the number-one most diverse school in Pa., and the school I taught at in Georgia, one of my classes had students from 23 different countries in it,” he said. “So, I enjoy that.
Manning said he was ready to “hit the ground running,” and is excited about the athletes and tools in place already.
