Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was slammed Friday by the Israeli military for sending a message of support for Palestinians and endorsing a comment claiming that genocide was being perpetrated in Gaza.
On Friday, Thunberg, 20, stated: "Today, we strike in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza. The world needs to speak up and call for an immediate cease-fire, justice, and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected." Between 2019 and 2023, Thunberg received Nobel Peace Prize nominations annually. In 2019, she was named Time's youngest Person of the Year, won the Right Livelihood Award, Amnesty International's Ambassador of Conscience Award, and was listed as one of Forbes' 100 most powerful women, according to the BBC.
In response, Israel conducted a sustained bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip, intending to target Hamas.
