The Israeli parliament has overturned a 2005 law that uprooted some Jewish settlements, reflecting settlers’ newfound power
BURQA, West Bank—When Limor Son Har-Melech was still a young mother grieving her husband’s death in a terrorist attack, Israeli troops pulled her family out of her home as they demolished the Jewish settlement of Homesh, part of the country’s disengagement more than 15 years ago from the Gaza Strip and parts of the northern West Bank.
Late on Monday night, Ms. Son Har-Melech, now a far-right Israeli lawmaker, voted with a majority in parliament to overturn parts of a 2005 law that made in those areas illegal, reversing Israeli policy and reflecting the power of the settler movement in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
