He was initially forecasted to be evaluated in four to six weeks from the LTIR designation, according to Lou Lamoriello. “We’re going to shut it down until he gets completely healthy,” Lamoriello said at the time. “He got banged up a little bit. I don’t really remember exactly what game it was, but he’s been on and off with it and it’s come to the point where we have to shut it down.”
In his absence, the Islanders had been largely rolling with Sebastian Aho on their third defensive pairing alongside Mike Reilly. But he has sat the previous two games for Robert Bortuzzo — the veteran blueliner making his way back from an LTIR stint that began shortly after he was acquired from the St. Louis Blues.
