completed 21-of-33 passing attempts for 168 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Trubisky was also sacked three times and owned a quarterback rating of 73.8. Pittsburgh gained just 243 total net yards on offense and lost the turnover battle. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin shouldn’t hesitate to bench Trubisky in favor of rookie first-round selectionTrubisky’s interception was the product of a poor read and decision. The former North Carolina product consistently missed receivers downfield. He was unwilling to push the ball and test tight throwing windows. Trubisky took bad sacks and also missed receivers underneath. Trubisky’s performance was the epitome of poor quarterback play.
It’s worth acknowledging the Steelers are unlikely to make an immediate change. The Steelers play on the road against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football. It qualifies as a massive divisional contest and Tomlin probably won’t feel comfortable preparing a first-year quarterback on a condensed week. Trubisky’s leash should be considerably shorter moving forward, however.
