The Internal Revenue Service is looking to hire as many as 700 people to help at Taxpayer Assistance Centers across the country, including some in Alabama.
The jobs are in addition to the more than 4,000 people recently hired to fill customer service representative positions, the agency said, and will instead be stationed at walk-in sites in every state.“This is an important priority to provide more service at the IRS for the upcoming filing season,” said Ken Corbin, the Service’s Taxpayer Experience Officer and Wage and Investment Commissioner.
The available positions are for Individual Taxpayer Advisory Specialists who provide face-to-face assistance at IRS Taxpayer Assistance Sites and the Initial Assistance Representatives who are responsible for greeting and determining the needs of taxpayers visiting TAC offices. In a press release, the IRS said the positions offer “highly competitive pay” and benefits such as health and life insurance and federal retirement. All employees must be a U.S. citizen and pass an FBI fingerprint check and tax compliance verification. No previous federal experience is required.
