This could be good news for Arc GPUs.
In this case, Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS did a better job at keeping the detail in these fishing nets than the game’s built-in anti-aliasing .’s tests, XeSS did this task pretty well when running on the Arc A770 . It provided a solid bump in frame rates compared to running the game in native 1080p or 4K, and there wasn’t a huge drop in quality like you’d expect to see without any sort of upscaling.
With that said, XeSS had a few hiccups that either weren’t present or were noticeably less intense when using DLSS. Intel’s tech particularly struggled with thin details, sometimes showing flickering moiré patterns or bands. These types of artifacts could definitely be distracting depending on where they showed up, and they got worse aspushed the system, asking it to upscale lower and lower resolution images to 1080p or 4K .
This sort of moving issue might not be easy to pick out in stills, but if you’re actually playing a game it’d likely stand out like a sore thumb. Intel’s version is in the middle, Nvidia’s in on the left, and a version without any upscaling is on the right.Intel also struggled to keep up with Nvidia when it came to a few particular subjects — notably, DLSS handled Lara Croft’s hair significantly better than XeSS.
