Two inquiries have been launched into the crash as India’s prime minister Narendra Modi vowed the ‘harshest punishment’ for those to blame
that killed nearly 300 people and injured more than 1,000 was likely caused by a signalling error, India’s railway minister said.
Early indications suggest a fault in the electronic signalling system led to a train wrongly changing tracks leading to Friday’s incident –The previous death toll of 300 has been revised down to 275 after some bodies were counted twice, officials said.There have been calls for ministers to resign in light of the tragedy, which involved two passenger trains and a goods train.
