IMPACT Community Action gets government funds to provides financial assistance for rent, mortgage and utilities.
On Friday, the NAACP issued a statement saying they were concerned about the lack of response to a letter that was sent on Thursday to IMPACT CEO Robert"Bo" Chilton, asking about plans to reopen outside of pre-scheduled appointments.
The Dispatch attempted to reach IMPACT on Friday afternoon and was placed on hold for more than 15 minutes without the ability to speak to anyone before the call was disconnected by someone at the organization. Phone options for emergency assistance directed callers to the agency's website. "It was reported that IMPACT will no longer accept walk-ins and future assistance would be by appointment only. We at the NAACP are concerned that if this is true that this change will negatively impact your target population having access to the vital resources your agency provides," the NAACP said.
The funds that are able to be provided by IMPACT can often cover a year of rent or be used to become current on past due rent, according to the mayor's office.
