Former Fulton Shipyard restaurant moved to its final resting spot at Riverview Museum
Antioch’s celebrated Red Caboose, for nearly four decades the home to a restaurant, has found a new life at the Antioch Historical Society Museum where an exhibit honoring the city’s long train history is being assembled.
Some eight workers, including Dave’s son, Tyler, assisted in the efforts, which included sending someone atop the caboose wearing a safety harness at several spots to double-check that the tall haul — some 16 feet — cleared any low-hanging telephone wires, Shupe said. A crane lifts the red caboose, formerly part of an Antioch restaurant, into place on April 14, 2023. The caboose will now be a train exhibit at the Antioch Historical Society Museum.
“This whole project has been quite an undertaking, even just to get the board to approve it,” Jacques added, noting the efforts began more than a year ago. “Trains have played such an important part in Antioch,” she said, noting the city once had two train stops, one downtown on First and J streets and another on A and Railroad Avenue.
