I didn't quite understand David Turnbull’s fingers in the ears celebration against St Mirren the other night. But what I do know is Celtic’s fringe men need to worry less about the noise and do their talking on the pitch.
There were times when Postecoglou could make four or five subs and it would actually strengthen the side. At the moment I get the sense Rodgers is making changes in games and hoping the replacements make an impact rather than expecting it. Oh Hyeon-gyu is a good example. He took his chance against St Mirren having barely had a sniff all season. I said last week I had doubts whether Rodgers fancied him but he got thrown in in midweek and he produced the goods.
That seems strange to me but there are other puzzling issues. Like, what’s happened to Gustaf Lagerbielke? Where is Malik Nawrocki? Both are supposedly fit but nowhere near the squad, with Lagerbielke keeping Starfelt out of the Sweden team yet not getting stripped for Celtic. They’ve been getting by but I’ve got some concerns about the midfield. Hatate is a huge blow. His dynamism will be a major miss in the next few months and it’s another problem for Rodgers to solve. The manager could well do without the off-the-field distractions involving sections of the support but you can bet he won’t take his focus off the real questions.
