Construction continues on Loop 610 at Westpark on May 25, 2023, in Houston. Crews this weekend will close Interstate 69 in the area to pour concrete for the new southbound Loop 610 lanes.Work at one of Texas’ worst bottlenecks this weekend will make trips along Interstate 69 hectic in Houston.
Crews will close I-69 in both directions at Loop 610 starting at 8 p,m. Friday, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Lanes will open by 5 a.m. Monday, or sooner if workers pouring concrete for the new southbound Loop 610 lanes can complete the task earlier. Officials said drivers should avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes either around or through the Uptown and Bellaire areas.Though Monday is a holiday, that did not affect the decision to close the lanes for the work.
“Typically we implement lane closure restrictions for heavily-traveled holiday periods such as the upcoming Fourth of July holiday,” TxDOT spokesman Danny Perez said. 🚧This weekend crews will close I-69 Southwest Freeway northbound and southbound at I-610 West Loop to continue work on the new 610 southbound bridge starting Friday, June 16 at 9pm until Monday, June 19 at 5am. Seek alternate route. 🚧
