Active air skirt gets two panels ahead of front wheels to improve aero and reduce Cd by 2.8%
The Hyundai motor group has developed a new active aerodynamic device called the active air skirt , which it expects to reduce a car’s drag coefficient by 2.8%. That might sound like a modest amount, but every tiny increment counts here, and the company says the device could improve the range of electric cars cruising at higher speeds. The AAS has already been tested on the Genesis GV60 electric SUV.
008 in the Cd figure of the GV60, which Hyundai says could improve range by just under four miles, assuming the EV is driven consistently at speeds at which its AAS is in use. This type of aerodynamic aid is being aimed squarely at SUVs, which are a tougher proposition than other car shapes when it comes to reducing drag.

Hyundai and Kia to Release High-Performance EV Successor to StingerThe Hyundai and Kia Group continue to unveil new models based on their highly successful e-GMP platform. However, the automaker's brands are already planning their next-generation vehicles, as indicated by an allegedly leaked union production schedule. For Kia, that will start with a high-performance successor to the Stinger, code-named GT1, and referred to as the EV8, though the name has not been confirmed yet. The sports sedan is expected to be based on the group's next-generation EV architecture. Around mid-2023, Hyundai previewed the platform under the name Integrated Modular Platform (IMA), but in these documents, it is simply referred to as the eM platform. It's anticipated to debut with the new Genesis GV90 in 2025, following which Hyundai and Kia will release their own models based on the architecture.
