The protest comes after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last month

Iran has seen weeks of unrest following the burial of Amini, a Kurdish woman who died in police custody on September 16.The 22-year-old had been detained for allegedly wearing the mandatory Islamic headscarf too loosely.

Across the globe, women including Oscar-winning actresses Marion Cotillard and Juliette Binoche have posted videos to social media with the hashtag HairForFreedom as they too cut their hair short in support. In Glasgow today, a sea of Iranian flags filled the air as crowds chanted “Say her name, Mahsa Amini, justice for, Mahsa Amini.”
