Huge emergency response after car found 'well alight' in river as water search teams scrambled
A huge emergency response was prompted after a car was found 'well alight' in the River Irk in north Manchester.Greater Manchester Fire Service confirmed three crews, as well as a technical rescue unit were deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire, shortly before 11pm on Saturday .Water operatives were then scrambled to the area to search the water for any casualties. It has not been confirmed if any person entered the water, or if any injuries were reported.
Footage taken from Hendham Vale shows a large number of emergency vehicles, including multiple fire crews, police and paramedics from North West Ambulance Service. "Three fire engines from Moss Side, Salford and Eccles stations, as well as the technical rescue unit from Ashton, quickly attended the incident. A car in the nearby River Irk was well alight on fire crews’ arrival.
