Start with something that has a proven track record, says e-commerce expert Tyler Walter.Building a sustainable and profitable e-commerce business all begins with a product."There are two big mistakes that new sellers make," Tyler Walter, co-founder of product sourcing companyThe first is,"spending too much time and effort trying to customize and create a unique product before there's been any testing in the market that this product actually works," he said.
For example, if you're interested in selling sports bras, start by looking at what's selling well. You can do this by searching for the product on Amazon and looking for the brands with tens of thousands of reviews. You can also use Instagram, he noted, and look for women's athleisure brands that have hundreds of thousands of followers.
Ultimately,"your goal is to get to profit as fast as possible," said Walter."If you're customizing a product that is totally new and unique, that requires tons of money and time just to get that product ready to go to market — and then you might go to market and find out that it doesn't even sell."
