So, how does the depleted Browns offense attack this Seahawk defense?
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The 4-2 Browns have played well enough on defense and special teams to be 6-0 this season.
To beat the 4-2 Seahawks on Sunday, the Browns must be balanced in both the run and pass. The Seahawks’ defense is very aggressive, only giving 87.2 yards per game rushing per game. Though not terrible, their pass defense is not a strength, giving up 235 yards per game. The issue for the Browns will be their ability to attack the secondary with inconsistent P.J. Walker. On film, the Seattle defense is led by Bobby Wagner and his 63 total tackles on the season.
The Browns must use their 60-plus pound-per-man advantage and run the football directly at Seattle. The offensive line wants to play this game in a phone booth and keep Seattle from using its speed and running horizontally to make tackles. Seattle rookie corner Devon Witherspoon loves to get involved in run support and has been outstanding with 31 total tackles, eight defended passes, and two quarterback sacks. That being said, his aggressiveness and nosiness in the run game can get him in trouble with double moves and play action. Look for Amari Cooper to use his elite route running and experience to attack to talented but young Witherspoon.
At this point, the offense may not be able to beat the Seahawks, but they must make sure they do not lose the game. The offense and special teams must protect the football, run downhill at Seattle, take a few shots downfield with Cooper, flip the field with Bojorquez, use Hopkins as weapon, and most importantly, always end each possession with a kick.
