Texans' Lovie Smith wants to win out against AFC South, not play for picks
Lovie Smith caused a bit of a stir on social media among Texans fans Monday when he said his team’s new goal is to finish with the best record in divisional play.
Whether that would move general manager Nick Caserio as he mulls a decision to keep Smith after this season or hire his third coach in three years is uncertain.After struggling for much of this season, dealing with injuries to key offensive players and quarterback issues, the Texans have played some of their best defensive football in the past three weeks. And it’s come against talented competition. The Cowboys and Chiefs will be in the playoffs in two weeks and the Titans could be as well.
Then on Saturday, Week 16, the Texans finally snapped their losing streak in a division game against the Titans. They held Titans running back Derrick Henry to 43 yards rushing in the second half, forced three turnovers — all in the fourth quarter — and won 19-14.
