A last minute cancelation left cosplayers and comic book fans roaming the Galleria last weekend in search of an event they weren’t sure existed.
H-Town Comic Con advertised itself as “Texas' newest pop culture celebration,” which was to occur June 23-25 at NRG Center. The event was organized by Alfredo De La Fuente, who runs Alamo City Comic Con, a popular San Antonio-based convention that’s been around since 2013, hosting celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and William Shatner.Comic cons typically bring together comic book fans with actors and artists for panels and meet-and-greets.
“We apologize for the long delay in News. Well wait no longer, we did have an issue with space and it was addressed. NRG Center has been great to work with us and we are very happy to announce that we have the space we need, with that we are needing to move our dates to October 20-22,” the post read. “Last week we did inform all artists, vendors, celebrities, and Ticket holders of the move.”
Dykes said she never received any communication about the event being rescheduled. On June 23, when she and her daughters arrived at the Galleria in costume and found out there was no event, her daughters felt “embarassed and upset,” she said. She tried messaging H-Town Comic Con on Facebook, but never received a reply.
De La Fuente did not respond to questions about the event, but on Facebook this week, H-Town Comic Con addressed the online complaints.
