The program's popularity and a recent change caused the delay, the state says.
Richard Suarez stands with his new air conditioning unit. He's been waiting since August to receive a rebate from the state's clean energy program. Richard Suarez’s central air conditioning unit died in the spring of 2021.
It was installed on June 29, 2021, and the rebate application was submitted by the contractor on Aug. 6. That’s 260 days ago.And Suarez still hasn’t received his rebate. Suarez said to be fair and knowing the holidays could slow things down, he wanted until Feb. 10 to call. “I told her it had been over 200 days since the quest for my rebate began, and I failed to see why my paperwork was still at the starting line,” he said. “The representative said I should — not would but should — get my rebate within 45 days.”
Peretzman said the program recently had a change. Rebates for heating, cooling and water-heating equipment, as of July 1, 2021, would be processed directly by utility companies.
