Albany Democrats remain stuck on plans to overhaul bail laws in a new state budget, with Gov. Kathy Hochul saying Wednesday she can hold out longer against progressive resistance.
Though Hochul did not explicitly link the two policy areas during an impromptu news conference at the state Capitol, the move gives the governor one less issue to fight about with progressives in the state Senate and Assembly as she presses for concessions on other issues.
“It didn’t seem to be a well thought out plan,” one Albany insider said of Hochul trying to shoehorn the idea into budget talks. “The whole thing makes no sense.”Gov.
