The smell of frying bannock, delighted shouts of children and toe\u002Dtapping fiddle melodies filled the air at Saskatoon\u0027s Métis Cultural Days.

For Clarissa Burns, teaching children about Métis games and traditional ways of life is all about making sure the culture stays vibrant for decades and generations to come.

“In order to sustain the King and Queen Trapper events, we are sharing the cultural ways of the Métis and Cree people in our area,” she said. “The kids are very interested. They learn like sponges. So it feels like it’s time for me to do my best to help this grow.” “It’s exciting, watching the young ones learn our traditional ways, and see how excited they are to be cooking it themselves,” he said. “They’re so patient and understanding about what we’re trying to do, and they can go home saying ‘I learned how to make frybread at Métis Days, and I know how to do that now.'”
