A 500-year-old pub in Wellingborough is set to reopen next week as a "traditional British pub", five years after it last closed its doors.
The historic drinking hole was boarded up in 2020 and later used as a Caribbean restaurant before new landlord Stuart Watson took over a few months ago. He said: "I saw it and I thought: 'It needs to be a classic British pub.'"The Tudor Grade II-listed pub ceased trading in 2018 after the previous landlord sold up.
Ye Golden Lion has undergone a "light refurbishment" to give it it's classic English look. The kitchen has also had a refit and an old storeroom converted into a cellar so the pub can serve draught after popular demand from locals. The new menu is based around "standard mains and pub favourites" including lasagne and curry, alongside a "good selection" of burgers and pizzas from the pizza oven. Stuart also has plans to hold themed nights for food, like a "Pie and Mash Night" or "Steak Night", with all produce coming from local traders.
