Inside the Chorley soap factory that has been keeping the nation clean for 85 years
On the inside however, is a bustling working factory, home to one of the oldest businesses in Chorley. Progress Mill on Progress Street is home to Droyt Glycerine Soap, which has been keeping households and businesses clean since 1937.
"It's all cut by hand using wires and people lay them on top of each other to dry out, which is what they do everywhere as it's the most effective method. The last stage is where we get a muslin cloth and individually wipe away any of the excess and then leave them out to dry, before they go upstairs to be packaged.
Some of the machinery in the factory was brought over from Germany in the 1930s and still very much operates in the same way it has for 85 years. The workers are truly impressive to watch - almost a glance back in time.
