'We have done the best we can with using our last day as a bit of a celebration day'
A gym has closed its doors following a battle with the building's owner. The Castle Gym is believed to have been the oldest in the city, opening in Nottingham during the 1980s, but they closed on Wednesday, November 30, after they were served with an eviction notice.
Castle Gym was located in Castle Boulevard, which was sold by Nottingham City Council to a real estate developer. Despite trying to appeal the eviction in court, the gym has had to close. Luke Willmott, owner of Castle Gym, said: "It has been a long fight, we have known for quite a while now and have been trying to win the battle, and unfortunately we have lost. We have done the best we can with using our last day as a bit of a celebration day, and had nearly 400 people through the door, which has been amazing.
When asked about the future of Castle Gym, Luke said: "We don't know. We are trying our hardest, but obviously it's not an easy thing to move a facility that's been there for over 40 years. "We've got nearly 40 to 50 tonnes so in the short term we have seven days to empty the building. Developers have taken over the back office, we have seven days to empty it, and from that, we don't know."
