It took five lead changes to determine a winner in Thursday night’s District 14-5A slugfest at Alamo Stadium, and a late touchdown run by Roger Lopez ultimately made the difference in a 20-16 Edison win against Lanier.
Early in the second quarter, Edison quarterback Roger Lopez spun out of a sack and threw against his body downfield to Mark Rangel, who fought double coverage to pull down the 45-yard reception. On the next play, running back Marco Gomez II took the handoff on an outside sweep and went 30 yards down the sideline to give the Bears a 7-3 lead.
The game’s third major momentum shift came with four-and-a-half minutes left in the third on a quarterback sneak from Lopez. On the proceeding kickoff, Dixon returned the ball 94 yards for his second touchdown of the game, giving the Voks a 16-14 advantage.
