Now, when you think of drought, it's usually not a positive thing, however, for locals in Canyon Lake, the drought revealed a rarity that hasn't been explored for what looks like almost a century.RELATED | See the photos behind Canyon Lake's hidden cavern filled with mysteries

We were able to drop an anchor to park the boat and walk ashore on the muddy terrain that led to the cavern. When I walked inside, the stalagmites and stalactites were evident all throughout the short walk around. The cave looped around and about and was covered with these age-old, nature-made monuments that take years upon years to form. Some of the stalagmites were as tall as four to five feet.

The construction of the Canyon Lake dam started on June 27, 1958, and the impoundment of water began on June 16, 1964. What was the most interesting part about this was that there was an inscription carved inside a rock inside the cave. The carving read, "Frederick Burley 1913." Hernandez was able to do his own research and found that this same person lived in the area back during that time period.
