Here's the highest-paying job in every state

Radiologist is the best-paying job in California and three other states, with average annual pay over $300,000 in each of those states.

For our analysis, Insider only looked at jobs with at least 1,000 employees in the state and for which BLS published a specific average annual wage estimate. Insider omitted jobs without an employee estimate, without a specific average annual wage amount, or without any average annual wage data at all from our analysis.

Tennessee is just one of the 22 states where the highest-paying title in the analysis was"Physicians, All Other," as worded on the BLS website. This title, according to, is noted as"all physicians not listed separately" and acts as a catchall for doctors not counted in one of the many other medical categories. The national average pay for this title is $238,700 per year.
