The longest heat waves on record in the New Jersey region was 20 days in the Newark area in 1988.

forecasting company, based in Monmouth County, is predicting Newark will either tie its longest heat wave of this year or beat it by one day.

Although some computer guidance models are projecting the heat wave could stretch as long as 15 days in Trenton and other areas of New Jersey, DiMartino says “the volatility is very high on the after eight days.” So there’s no safe bet on how long the brutal heat will linger. DiMartino expects the hottest temperatures to be felt in the Delaware River Valley region, where the mercury could soar very close to 100 degrees this weekend — without the humidity factored in.The longest heat waves on record in the New Jersey region were 20 days in the Newark area , 14 days in the Atlantic City area and 11 days in the Trenton area , according to the National Weather Service’s climate database.
