The newlyweds flew 4,000 miles to tie the knot at Universal Studios in Florida
Harry Potter superfans flew 4,000 miles and spent £12,000 to have a wizard-themed dream wedding - complete with dragons, butterbeer and a photoshoot in front of Hogwarts castle. Elaine Gilchrist and Martin Ward, who live in Largs, North Ayrshire, Scotland, made their magical matrimony extra special after tying the knot at Universal Studios in Florida by climbing aboard the Hogwarts Express in their wedding attire.
"I've always loved the books. I was one of these saddos that queued to get the books. I think it's just something you can lose yourself in, they're so magical. It was actually Martin that introduced me to the Harry Potter books - he was working in a school at the time and said the kids are all raving about this book. I was just hooked from there.
"We tried to get a Scottish element to the wedding. I had a thistle on one nail and the Deathly Hallows symbol on my ring finger. The celebrant had a little Hedwig and a wand so we got our photos taken with that. Our wedding toast was with butter beer." "We got inside the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom where normally you just get to walk past it but we actually got inside it. The way the got the photo it was perfect timing because there's a bit where Harry, Ron and Hermione come out as laser projections and she got them in the photographs so we've actually got them in the background of our wedding photos."
"We're just big kids - we've never grown up. Out of a 22-day trip we would maybe do Universal 14 or 15 of those days. We've probably done our favourite ride - The Mummy ride - around 100 times by now. We go every year to Universal - people think we're mad. It's just so immersive and the rides there are just phenomenal. As a Potter fan, those two areas transport me into the actual movies.
