Saskatoon Hilltops romped the visiting Calgary Colts 53-2 in their Canadian Junior Football League's Prairie Football Conference semifinal.
HIs interception in the second quarter turned into a 26-yard touchdown major Sunday as the Saskatoon Hilltops pulled away for a 20-0 lead on their way to a convincing 53-2 victory over the Calgary Colts in Prairie Football Conference semi-final playoff action at SMF Field in the Gordie Howe Sports Complex.“That,” said Keating, a fifth-year Hilltop from Saskatoon Centennial Collegiate, “is the first one in CJFL history for me in my fifth year so that’s pretty awesome.
“Bring it on,” said Sargeant. “I don’t care who we play. We’re at home; we’ve won nine straight football games. The poise and confidence this team has right now is at an all-time high. It’s playoff football. We’ll embrace it and we’re proud to be at home next week because we’ve earned that right.”“It’s a stingy group, a gritty group that’s come so far in a short period of time,” praised Sargeant. “Lots of new starters out there but they’ve embraced their roles, embraced their jobs.
“What they’ve been doing all year is what they were doing today,” said Sargeant. “They’re just on board. They’re a special group. That’s why we make sure we kick the ball off, to get them on the field and let them set the tone and they certainly did that today. Then the offence got their feet under them and we’re just flowing and going and everyone’s feeling good. The plays were the plays and the players made the plays today. It was fun to watch.
