A man who was involved in a shooting in a Leeds street filled with children has been handed a life sentence.
Leeds Crown Court heard on Thursday that at around 6.45pm, the two went to the street and pursued their target who was in a van before a firearm was discharged.His Honour Judge Jameson said: "At that time in June, lots of people were about and there was a good many members of the public, including children. You were living in Bradford and came to Leeds. The man was in a van. You say there was a gun and it was loaded but you had not anticipated it would be discharged.
The court heard Liburd had previously been jailed for ten years and eight months for a firearm offence after he was caught in a taxi heading from Holbeck into Leeds city centre. Mitigating, Kara Frith told the court Liburd is "realistic" in relation to the seriousness of the offence, and had pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. She said in a pre-sentence report, which labelled him a high risk to the general public, "there are indicators he is not necessary someone who will remain a risk indefinitely."
