The GuardiansOfTheGalaxy Holiday Special will introduce multiple new MCU characters.
James Gunn says the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will introduce multiple characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn took oddball comic book characters like Groot and Rocket Raccoon and made them household names. With last summer’s The Suicide Squad, the writer/director introduced more characters than perhaps any DC film thus far, including John Cena’s Christopher Smith/Peacemaker.
Following work on Peacemaker, Gunn has returned to the MCU and is currently filming the final installment in his Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Filming concurrently with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is set to drop on Disney+ during the 2022 holiday season, just months before the release of the third film.
More than one great new MCU characters will be introduced. #GotGHolidaySpecial https://t.co/weRjRdQekoGunn has previously teased he’ll be introducing one of the greatest MCU characters of all time in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and now fans know they’ll be treated to more than one new face. While nothing has been revealed as to the identities of these new characters, Gunn has ruled out Homer, the Happy Ghost.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be required MCU viewing as it leads into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The former will reportedly be 40 minutes long and, of course, follow the titular team during the holiday season. Gunn has hyped the special is perhaps the greatest thing he’s ever done—which is saying a lot. The Guardians of Galaxy Holiday Special will likely premiere in December of this year and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set for release on May 5, 2023.
