The Board of Deputies of British Jews calls on the party to remove three candidates
The Greens are engulfed in a fresh antisemitism crisis after a prominent Jewish group said the party risked “sinking into a growing cesspit of racism”.to remove three general election candidates over their social media activity and has said it is “increasingly concerned” about its vetting procedures.
He added “I condemn the attack and the occupation” and said “I am not convinced Hamas leaders are acting in the best interests of Palestinians” but continued: “My hunch is the leaders of Israel and Gaza conspired to carry out what happened on 7 Oct for financial gain. But I don’t have any proof. This is why it remains a hunch and nothing more.”
The news comes after Mothin Ali, a Green Party councillor elected in Leeds, called his election earlier this month a “win for the people of Gaza” before shouting “Allahu Akbar”. It sparked alarm in the city’s Jewish community while Ali, who said he did not support violence, said he was “sorry for any upset” caused.their highest ever number of elected councillors in the 2024 local elections
When asked about antisemitism connected to candidates, she said: “I’m very conscious of the rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia across UK society. It is really concerning and it has no place in politics.
