Lauren Betts, among the best girls basketball players in copreps history, is one win away from an elusive state title. As her final game nears, this much is clear: Grandview's Stanford-bound center has more than lived up to the hype. via KyleNewmanDP
Betts’ club experience accelerated her development. And, her presence as the lone high school player on the USA Basketball U19 team that won the gold medal at the 2021 FIBA World Cup helped her take her game to another level.
“There’s a lot of people who are obviously going to have opinions on me, and expect me to play a certain level every game, and when I don’t meet those standards sometimes, I still need to have that faith in myself,” Betts said. “That’s something I’ve really reminded myself of lately and have stayed true to.”
Before Grandview can think about a championship, it has to get through Colorado’s all-time winningest girls coach, Caryn Jarocki, and her storied Highlands Ranch program in Thursday’s Final Four. “It’s not going to be one person’s responsibility, although Alex does have the brunt of it,” Jarocki said. “And we’re going to try to install some to take her off her game.”
