Dorrans fulfilled a boyhood dream when he joined his heroes in 2017 but he believes the current Gers can achieve what he didn't.

Graham Dorrans found out the hard way just how good Brendan Rodgers’ peak Parkhead side were first time round.

Back at Ibrox as a fan at the weekend, Sunday’s defeat was another blow. But the former Scotland international is adamant Rangers aren’t down and out already just four games in as he insisted Rodgers’ Mk II Celtic aren’t the force his first model were. “It’s football though and as a player you have to deal with. That’s what the current team needs to do as well. It’s a concern though that this new Rodgers team isn’t firing on all cylinders and yet they’ve still found a way to win big games like Sunday’s.

But Dorrans can’t quite get his head around why Michael Beale didn’t view the season’s Old Firm opener as the perfect time to strike as injuries left Rodgers relying on derby debutants Gustaf Lagerbielke and Liam Scales at centre-half. Beale faced a furious fan response at full-time and there are already calls for the boss to go after allowing Celtic to march four points in front. As someone who has stood on both the terraces and the Ibrox turf, Dorrans understands the backlash but it’s his experience as a player that has convinced him now is not the time for rash reactions.
