A royal source said: “There is a collaborative approach between the Palace and the Government when it comes to state visits. While the final decision on schedule and the meetings the King attends lies with the government, these things don’t happen with the wishes of the monarch being taken into account.
The King is expected to find an ally in Mr Macron, who shares his passion for the environment and is believed to have invited the King to Paris when he travelled to London for the Queen’s funeral. While the King can speak French well, he is also understood to be polishing up on his language skills to ensure he can be “a polite guest” during the visits.
