The win gives Patrick a third term in the position many consider the most powerful legislative post at the Capitol.
The results weren’t final, as many counties continued to report Election Day results to the Secretary of State’s office late into the night. Those endorsements played into Collier’s campaign strategy of highlighting his defection from the GOP in an attempt to appeal to middle-of-the-road voters and independents.
In advertisements and on the campaign trail, Patrick sought to cast Collier as a far-left crusader – one in favor of the Green New Deal in lockstep with President Joe Biden and Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Beto O’Rourke.
