The film will serve as the fifth overall installment in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise and as a direct sequel to 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong. After several delays to its release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the most recent MonsterVerse movie released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, raking in a respectable $470 million worldwide.
