Deals have been reached to settle pay claims but a new pay and grading structure is still being developed.
Glasgow’s long-running equal pay issues are expected to be resolved by March 2025 when a new pay structure should be active.
Council leader Susan Aitken, SNP, said she hoped March 2025 would be “the absolute end”. “We are aiming for earlier than that,” she added. But that deal “did not extinguish the council’s equal pay liability”, as it “related to claims submitted before an agreed cut off date” — March 31, 2018. Elaine Galletly, the council’s director of legal and administration, told the city administration committee on Thursday that by the week ending August 11 approximately 20,500 offers had been made to claimants and over 19,000 accepted.
“The new pay and grading scheme will take effect on October 15, 2023 which is when the settlement date goes up to, but there will be a gap in terms of the actual implementation of the scheme. Cllr Aitken said the job evaluation process is “already very, very advanced”. “The next stage of determining the final pay and grading is the end point and the backdating will cover any additional gap period.”
