Girls Scouts CEO Sylvia Acevedo shares 3 ways to advance young women in tech:
I find that 80 percent of the female tech leaders I meet were Girl Scouts.
Acevedo a former rocket scientist and technology expert, took on the role of leading Girl Scouts in 2016, and renewed the organizations focus on advancing girl’s skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math . Developing girls’ STEM capabilities starts with creating opportunities for them to experiment and make mistakes. “It's no surprise to me that almost every female astronaut from the United States was a Girl Scout. The top business leaders in America, those women started off as Girl Scouts. I wouldn't have been a rocket scientist, entrepreneur or tech exec had I not had that great girl-only environment that Girl Scouts offers,” says Acevedo.
